(Also known as "Race Dirver: GRID") GRID takes players to dramatic and beautifully realized race locations over three continents to compete in a variety of racing events. Packed with the most powerful race cars - new and classic, circuit and drift - players compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships then beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, and then on through to road events and urban street races. The drama, the rivalries, the aggression and the crashes; this is not a game about collecting cars or spending all of your time in the front-end tuning suspension settings or designing liveries. Codemasters wants to make racing exciting again. Gamers compete on Europe's greatest official race tracks in prestige Marques including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani. Iconic cities across the U.S, including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit - each with their own atmosphere and events - play host to diverse street races, where high-performance V8 muscle cars set the pace in aggressive, closely fought pack competitions. And in the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, takes drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads. There's also the opportunity to compete in races that operate on the fringes of legality in the back streets and industrial areas of Yokohama. [Codemasters]

Many will balk at the game because it doesn’t offer a million different models of car. Those who do are missing the point. Grid is all about the fun and excitement of the race. It’s racing with a capital ‘R’ minus the frustration. You won’t find a more fun racing game this year.

If Colin McRae: DIRT was a sign of Codemasters regaining a foothold in the racing market, the latest Race Driver is evidence of the publisher taking full control. GRID makes the high points of its rivals feel like false dawns, and if what’s on offer here is a sign of things to come, we’re all in for a remarkable ride.

Is GRID the next big thing in the automotive game genre? I think so. The game has incredible arcade form, and I think the Flashback feature is one of the best new ideas we've seen come from this genre in a long time.

Game Over Online
Series vets with fond memories of the Pro Race Driver/TOCA games on previous systems should pick this up immediately, and if you're unsure about it, there's a demo available for download that’ll give you a good idea as to how easily most of the cars can be controlled, but won't give you a very accurate view of just how many kinds of racing styles are represented in the full game.

The complete racing package, Race Driver GRID is perfectly tuned to produce a fine balance between fun and realism. A large range of classes means the comparatively small number of cars does nothing to detract from the sense of scale.

Although the drift racing is too dependant on the hand brake and I’d like more emotional investment in the cars in my garage (some tweaking would be nice, as would more of a sense of pride in each car I own), Grid is a shining example of how to make a fresh racing game that captures that age-old, fundamental desire to go screaming down the asphalt like a rubber-shredding, hell-bent maniac.

Fulfilling all the promises and expectations, Codemasters offers a high quality racing game. In fact, GRiD not only sets a new path for the historical Race Driver series, but also manages to keep the high quality standards usually accomplished by the company. [June 2008]

The campaign structure, the selection of events and vehicles, even the damage modelling and Flashback systems are all of a piece, and all intended to achieve one goal – to keep you on the racetrack, pedal to the metal, chasing the win. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?

Race Driver: Grid looks excellent and presents many interesting car classes. Still, bad A.I. and unbalanced physics engine that works for some cars and feels absolutely awful for some other of them, ruins the good potential. Grid is great entertainment at the beginning to show the potential of recently bought new generation console, but that's basicly everything it offers. No multiplayer game tested. [Aug 2008]

It looks nice, moves at a good clip and you always feel like you’re able to control the car and know exactly when you lose your grip. The Flashback feature feels like something with a lot of promise and we can’t wait to see what the next racing game that rolls out of the garage at Codemasters will be like.

Think of it as a racing fling, not asking you for any long-term commitment, and letting you walk away once you're finished so you can pursue something with more depth. Still, it's fun while it lasts.

MARK W. gave it a9:
Very impressed overall great gameplay excellent graphics, online a laugh and single player mode well thought out with sponsorship etc very realistic best racer on ps3 in my opinion!

AmigaGuru ToAks gave it a5:
a huge letdown, the demo was excellent but the game never really specialized it self on anything and it where just plain boring after a few hours. graphics and physics are cool but not outstanding.

Mick O. gave it a10:
Not as many cars available to buy as on GT and less tweeking allowed, but visually it's as good as if not better in some regards with far more courses and it's certainly a hell of a lot more fun when actually racing. AI on other cars is streets ahead of GT - pressure the car in front enough and they'll make a mistake and possibly spin out - not to mention the damage physics or having 19 other opponents on track, who can have tyre blow outs and overheated engines go up in smoke and all the mayhem that entails. Three main arenas: Europe, USA and Japan, with plenty of races available in each. I really enjoyed Codemasters previous race games from the original Colin McRae and TOCA, but thought they ran out of steam somewhat on the PS2. But, first with Dirt and now with GRID, they're definitely back on track.

Matthew W. gave it a10:
This is Codemasters best game in years. It absolutely delivers on all levels. It's a cross between a arcade and racing sim. The graphics are absolutely the best ever seen in a racing game. The game engine is second to none. The car damage is so cool looking, when you crash into a wall or flip the car you can see it all in glorious slow motion replay all you want as the car breaks and smashes... incredibly real looking. The game itself is spot on, the driving is very real to life feeling. And they focused on around 50 cars, the cream of the crop, so there's enough variety but you're always driving a wicked car. Bottom live, this game is FUN. Tons of fun and re playability. A MUST PURCHACE!! The PC Version is great too!
