Delivering Civilization's renowned epic single-player campaigns featuring vast re-playability and unmatched addictive gameplay as well as revolutionary features like real-time interaction with leaders and advisors, extensive multiplayer capabilities and integrated video and voice chat, it transports the Civilization series to a level of gameplay that fans have never seen before. Some of the key features that resonate with fans of strategy games and the Civilization franchise include 16 civilizations to master and lead to victory, an array of famous historical leaders to play as or compete against, and accessible maps and streamlined time scale for quicker games, intense combat, and constant action. In addition, auto-matching, ranked games, leaderboards, achievements, downloadable extra content and integrated video and voice chat make the online play more versatile and fun than any previous version of Civilization and will allow players to see where they stand against the competition. Pocket Gamer UK
Subtle, hugely addictive and massively fun, this is a rare strategy title that manages to be as accessible as it is deep.

Seasoned Civ fans will love how the heart and soul of the game have been distilled to DS without losing any of the appeal. [Oct 2008, p.66]

Civilization Revolution for the DS is a distilled, streamlined version of the popular PC strategy series that succeeds despite its limitations.

This title’s greatest accomplishment is simply in delivering the full Civilization Revolution experience on Nintendo’s handheld.

The fact that you can have fun with this game on your own terms and on your own time is great, but the title does this without sacrificing any of the classic Civilization gameplay so many people have come to know and love.

The premiere of Civilization on the NDS has been successful and lives up to my expectations. Even this small-scale version of Civilization Revolution pleases, although “Civilization lite” would have been a better title. Gamer who liked the PC-version, will miss the complexity and amount of features. Nevertheless, the concept of the game is able to ignite the spark.

Civilization: Revolution for the DS does a remarkably good job in retaining the best features of its PC predecessors.

But Revolution's greatest omission is testament to just how addicting the game is. It's disappointing not having the option to play "one more turn..." after a victory condition is achieved and continuing to build (or rebuild) your empire.

Civilization Revolution is one of the better strategy titles for the DS and the only one that delivers the full empire-building experience that made the series such a hit on the PC.

While it won't be winning any beauty contests with its barebones 2D graphics, the play's the thing and the combination of solid controls and lots of content in the form of the technologies, units and variegated civilizations make Civ Rev an enjoyable and entertaining romp through the traditionally staid and somber realm of nation management.

It might not have the bells and whistles of the console versions or its PC predecessors, but this smaller colony is quite at home on the DS.

Civilization passed a “pocket examination”. Another platform conquered Civ is addictive as usual and brings to all players an extremely deep and variable strategic experience without any excuses. [Sept 2008]

Civilization Revolution remains the furiously, maddeningly addictive sandbox of delights that it's always been – which is probably the highest praise you can give it.

Revolution capitalizes on the DS’s strengths with some great stylus-based controls. Unfortunately, there are some problems, as the gameplay feels a bit scaled down and the maps feel pretty cramped.

In terms of distilling the core Civilization experience from PC to handheld, this is almost as victorious as the PC-to-console iterations. [Oct 2008, p.103]

Although it isn't easy to release a decent RTS game on a handheld, Civilization: Revolution succeeds with ease. Even after you played several scenarios the game still doesn't bore you. Off course the DS version lacks the overview of it's console counterpart but is definitely worth your money.

Stickguy gave it a9:
This is an excellent Nintendo DS game. It plays exactly how you would imagine a civilization game for the DS to play. The graphics are simple (as they should be) and the gameplay is simple as well.

Gregory S. gave it a10:
Nice version of Civ for on the go.

DJ T gave it a10:
It's not the flashy computer version we all know and love - but at the heart, it's portable civ at it's finest. It's quick, it's addictive, and it's great fun! Those of you who've never played the franchise - it's Advance wars with city building/resource management. It's a lot of substance and the wifi and multiplayer options are great. ENDLESS REPLAY.
